Dr Nizamuddin Ahmad Siddiqui

Dr Siddiqui teaches Law, Religion and Identity in Contemporary India at the Institute. He is also the Managing Editor of Indian Muslim, the Institute's journal.
He holds a B.A. LL.B. (Honours) from Aligarh Muslim University (2011), an LL.M. in International Law from South Asian University (2013) and a PhD from Jindal Global Law School (2022). His PhD thesis, Shari'a and International Law: An Exploration in Legal Praxis (2022), argues for a plural imagination of international law, making room for a Shari'a praxis within it.
His wider scholarship centres on the intersection of law, religion and identity, with particular attention to Muslim citizenship, personal law, identity and the place of religion in public argument. He coordinated the Waqf Conference (AIC-Aliah University, Chicago 2025) and is currently co-guest-editing a Special Issue on Waqf Law in India for the Manchester Journal of Transnational Islamic Law and Practice (Scopus, Q2) (2026). He previously prepared a SI on Uniform Civil Code in India (2023) in the same journal.
A regular voice in mainstream media and on public platforms, he brings rigorous legal scholarship to national conversations on Muslim identity. He is a Partner at NAS Law Chambers and also Co-Founder of Project Mishkat, a platform dedicated to advancing Muslim public intellectualism in India.
